Pinterest is rolling out its initial set of APIs, partnering with a number of companies that have already started featuring popular Pins on their websites. According to the announcement, Pinterest will release “multiple APIs” to its partners over the coming weeks, including a Top Pins API, Domain Search, Most Recent and Related Pins.
“The Pins on these sites and mobile apps will regularly update, so you always see what’s trending,” says Pinterest, “If you see something you like, you can Pin it right from the site without having to take a break from shopping, reading or browsing.”
Many sites are already using Pinterest’s Top Pin API to showcase Pins that have gained popularity on the social media network. AllRecipe.com’s homepage highlights its most popular Pins of the day:

Pinterest says Disney, Nestlé, Walmart, Hearst and Zappos are among other companies currently showcasing popular Pins on their websites, with Spoonful and Tastebook to follow. Other Pinterest partners include:

- Wayfair
- Whole Foods
- Zulify
- Babble
- BabyZone
- Elle Magazine
- Mashable
- ModCloth
- NBC News Digital’s Village

According to the announcement, many sites are seeing measurable results from Pinterest, with Target.com’s referral traffic increasing 70 percent in the first six weeks of implementing rich pins. Pinterest also claims it sends more traffic to Buzzfeed than Twitter, and more referrals to AllRecipes.com than Facebook.
