App developer Xyo has released App for Me, a new mobile search app that identifies a long tail of apps based on Facebook Likes. When a user performs a query using the search app, App for Me will deliver relevant app recommendations based on the user’s Facebook Likes, as well as offer app recommendations for the user’s Facebook friends.
According to Xyo, App for Me search results will display Facebook friends, “…most likely to be interested in a long tail of over 600 types of apps and 120 game interests.”
Xyo cites that 10 percent of apps get 90 percent of the downloads, with users focusing only on an app store’s top shelf apps. “It’s amazing how rich app stores truly are – there are hundreds of app interests, not only a few dozen categories as app stores suggest,” said Xyo co-founder Matthaus Krzykowski.
Xyo CEO Zoe Adamovicz sees value beyond simply pairing apps to a user’s Facebook Likes, “The suggestion that any of your friends may be interested in a particular set of app interests is powerful, as it sparks conversations and entices users to share them with friends,” says Adamovicz, “We make the app store’s long tail discoverable for our users.”
Xyo claims to be the first app to deliver long tail app search results based on Facebook Likes. While the app was released this week, Xyo boasted “great adoption rates” with the first set of users from the closed beta launch three weeks ago.
