new format for google app install ads

Google’s previous format for app install interstitials, on the left, is being replaced by the new style on the right.

Google has rolled out new design formats for full-screen interstitial ads. New interstitial designs are available for both app install ads and text ads in both iOS and Android apps.

The app install ads (shown on the right above) now feature a cover image at the top and more prominently highlight app ratings and a description in the center of the screen. The footer ribbon features a rounded install button and is custom-colored based on the dominant color of either the cover photo or the app icon.

Users can also click the “More images” button in the cover photo to see more screenshots of the app.

Text Ad Update

The new text ad interstitial (on the right below) is meant to be easier to read, with a bigger headline and ad copy moved up the screen. The call-to-action button is now round, and the display URL is much less prominent.

Google says it tested 10 designs over a year. The ads are available on AdMob via AdWords, as well as through the DoubleClick Ad Exchange.
