Google Doodles Store: Get Special Google Logos On Clothes, Stamps — Even Skateboards!

Google’s known for its special logos — called Doodles — for holidays and famous anniversaries. Now Google offers a way to get them printed on everything from t-shirts to mugs and more.

I stumbled across the Doodles On Demand site yesterday. It seemed new, and Google confirmed that it is. The company told me it went up quietly in October, as a way to help serve the demand of people who love Doodles and want them printed on things.

Choose By Year

The storefront is done in partnership with Zazzle, and I thought it was pretty cool. You can start by browsing Doodles by year:

From there, you can select any Doodle to proceed to a particular product it can be printed on:

Mugs, t-shirts, stamps, even skateboards are among the products offered.

Choose By Product Type

You can also browse by product type first, such as for mugs:

By default, the most popular Doodles for a particular product are shown first, but you can sort other ways and drill-down into particular years.

Not All Doodles Offered; No Profits Earned

You can also search to find Doodles you may want. However, not all of them are there. For example, I couldn’t find the Mr Men & Little Miss Doodles or the Pac-Man Doodle.

It might be that Google doesn’t have a license to put some of these Doodles on real-world products, when they involve trademarked characters. I’ll see if I can get that confirmed.

The company did make a point to tell me that it makes no profit off of any sales. It considers this solely a service to meet demand that’s out there.

Yes, People Do Want This Stuff

I know first-hand about that demand. I’ve visited the Google Store at its headquarters several times. Whenever I’ve shared pictures of some of the merchandise there:

I’ve had people ask where they can get some of these items. Unfortunately, while Google does have its Google Online Store, that’s often lacked some items.

For example, skateboard decks like these (I bought the one third from the bottom) were only available in the physical store:

The online store’s inventory has improved. Android cookie cutters are offered there, for instance. But there are still gaps. You can’t buy a cute Android cookie jar to put those cookies in, not online.

Doodles On Demand helps fill that gap, especially on the skateboard front. But no Google snowboards yet to report. You can get a Bing one, however (and I did — I’m a junky for anything search).
