Report: Facebook Plans To Launch Notify, A Standalone News App, Next Week
The app will give people the ability to subscribe to media outlets and get alerts when new stories are published. The Financial Times cited sources saying it will be introduced next week.
Facebook is planning another move into mobile news. The social network will launch a standalone news app next week, according to a report today in the Financial Times.
The app, called Notify, will give users the opportunity to subscribe to media outlets and receive alerts when they publish new stories. The app’s existence has been known since mid-October, when it was leaked to the Awl and is another move by Facebook to capture an even larger share of the the mobile news market.
Citing sources familiar with Facebook’s plans, the Financial Times said Notify will include content from dozens of media partners, including Vogue, the Washington Post, CBS, Mashable, Comedy Central and Billboard.
