After reports this past May that Yelp would be adding video, the business review site announced yesterday that iPhone users can now upload three- to twelve-second videos of local businesses via their Yelp mobile app.
Yelp said it doesn’t want the videos to be considered “video reviews,” but instead offer users the chance to see a local business’s ambiance, lighting and noise levels before visiting the location.
According to the announcement, “These short videos are great for conveying the atmosphere of a business, which helps others anticipate their experience before stopping by.” Yelp shared the following mobile screen shots of the new feature:
Yelp says over 23,000 images are uploaded to the site via mobile devices each day, and that users spend more than twice as much time on business pages with images than those without.
Android users will get the video feature as well, but there was no specific roll-out date given for Yelp’s Android app.
