Yelp Reports 65 Percent Revenue Growth But Bigger Than Expected Loss

Yelp earnings this afternoon were a mixed bag (as they say), with strong revenue growth but a larger-than-expected loss. Revenue was $41.2 million in Q4, a 65 percent increase vs. a year ago. The company also posted a loss of $5.3 million in the fourth quarter.
Revenue for the full year was $137.6 million, which represented an increase of 65 percent vs. $83.3 million last year. Shares are down slightly in after-hours trading after rising throughout the day.

- 25 percent of local ads were shown on mobile devices
- The Yelp mobile app was used on approximately 9.2 million mobile devices on a monthly average basis
- Yelp how has 36 million reviews
- At the end of 2012 there were 86 million monthly unique users; there are now 100 million
- Active local business accounts grew 68 percent year over year to approximately 39,800
- 61 percent of photos on yelp were uploaded via mobile
- Nearly half (46 percent) of total Yelp search query volume comes from mobile devices
