Previously Schulte held a number of positions at Google since joining in 2007. Most recently he was a product manager and managed Google+ marketing. The first Google employee Mayer hired was Anne Espiritu, who was in PR at Google and now has a similar job at Yahoo.

It’s a safe bet that Mayer is talking to others at Google in an effort to recruit them. Beyond her force of personality and enthusiasm it’s not clear what the incentives are — perhaps stock in a potentially resurgent Yahoo or a chance to “make an impact” and rebuild a great internet brand?

Mayer has already implemented numerous changes at the company, making it more Googlesque in several respects.

It’s way too early to tell whether Mayer’s efforts will pay off. However there appears to be some new energy at the company and Mayer’s focus on product development and technology is right I believe. Rather than simply cutting costs and managing Yahoo’s existing, mature businesses Mayer is trying to return the company to growth.
