jura-whiskyThe folks at Jura, a whisky distillery located on the island of Jura in west Scotland, are making the most out of a Google mapping mistake.

The island recently went missing from Google Maps, so the distillery has decided to have a little fun at Google’s expense … and get some brand recognition in the process.

Jura is running an “X Marks The Spot” contest on Twitter, inviting consumers to put an X in the spot where they think the distillery is located. They then tweet back the image to the company’s account, @jura_whisky, to enter. The prize? A bottle of the company’s 16-year-old whisky.

Let’s help @googlemaps. Mark our location on the map and tweet it to us to win a prize. T&Cs http://t.co/GK4NPUtVZG pic.twitter.com/AopdRdOHKg

As word of the contest spread on Thursday, the number of entries started to rise. It’s limited to UK residents 18 and older, and the entry window is tight. The contest began on Wednesday and entries have to be tweeted to Jura by 11:59 pm (UK time) tonight.

Jura isn’t using Facebook (or any other social network) for the contest, just Twitter.

Jura’s Bob Dalrymple told The Drum that the company “has had great success engaging with our brand fans via social media, and it is a big part of our strategy. We’re delighted to give our Twitter followers the chance to point the guys at Google in the right direction.”
