YouTube’s Top 10 Super Bowl ads since 2008: Anheuser-Busch’s Budweiser & Bud Light earn 3 spots
With Budweiser at No. 1 and No. 4 and Bud Light at No. 8, the beverage company was the only advertiser to have multiple appearances in the top 10 list.
As we wait for Super Bowl LI campaigns to start rolling out, YouTube has completed an extensive analysis of its top Super Bowl ads from 2008 through 2016.
Based on the number of views each ad received during January and February of the year the ad was released, Budweiser’s “Puppy Love” from 2014 claimed the No. 1 spot, followed by Clash of Clans’ “Revenge” from 2015 at No. 2, and Volkswagen’s 2011 ad, “The Force,” at No. 3.
According to YouTube’s AdBlitz 10-Year Anniversary report, the top 20 Super Bowl ads during the last nine years account for more than 440 million minutes of watch time. YouTube also found that nearly 30 percent of new channel subscribers for the top 20 Super Bowl brands happened during the month of February for whatever year the brand’s Super Bowl ad was released.
YouTube also looked at when the top 20 Super Bowl ads were released, and found 90 percent were first shared on YouTube before the game.
“The share of Super Bowl ads released on YouTube before game day grew over 200 percent from 2008 to 2016,” claims YouTube’s report.
Seven of the top 20 Super Bowl ads on YouTube were from the 2015 Super Bowl game. The remaining 13 ads in the top 20 were from Super Bowls that happened from 2011 through 2016 — even though the report uses data going back to 2008.
The YouTube AdBlitz report includes a full list of the top 20 Super Bowl ads since 2008. While some of the brands no longer have their Super Bowl ads from past years listed on their YouTube channels, we’ve hunted down the top 10 to share here.
