Leveraging the #underwaterselfie tag to promote their new water-resistant Galaxy S5 phone, Samsung, working with Zurich-based Serrantega, surprised pedestrians alongside Lake Zurich with something a bit unsuspected.

While people enjoyed the sun, a scuba diver suddenly emerged from the depths with a Galaxy S5 in his hand. As he emerged, he raised the phone, offered it to one of the people along the lake and said, “It’s for you.”

Those who took the phone and answered the call were promised they could keep it if they would jump into the freezing cold water and take an #underwaterselfie of themselves as everyone watched. The Galaxy S5 boasts a water resistance rating of 7, meaning it’s water-resistant up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.

A video capturing the stunt launched July 3rd and has amassed over a quarter million views to date.

Meanwhile on Facebook’s Instagram, the #underwaterselfie hashtag has been appended to 8,817 posts and #underwaterselfies displays 2,408 posts, as of the time of publication.

The hashtag is getting a significant amount of traffic on Twitter, as well, though it’s not clear how many of the Tweeters and Instagrammers associate the hashtag with Samsung and its phone.
