Google Glass Will Expand Its Features Into Music from the New York Times reports that today, Google will be bringing back this feature in a big way. The NY Times wrote:
On Tuesday, Google will unveil a set of features for Glass to search for songs, scan through saved playlists and listen to music in high fidelity. This can all be done while a user is wearing the lensless frames, which respond to vocal commands and have a small computer and transparent projection screen above the right eye.
Google Glass posted a teaser on Google+ of what is to come. Google said:
In the next few weeks, we’ll roll out a new voice command (“Okay Glass, listen to”) so you can access your tracks from +Google Play Music, including the millions of songs on All Access. We’re also introducing stereo earbuds designed specifically for Glass. They’re lightweight and uniquely engineered to deliver crisp, full-range audio while still letting you hear your surroundings. You can also rock out in style by customizing your buds with five interchangeable color caps.
To all our Glass Explorers, sit tight. You’ll be able to dive into music on Glass soon. Look for an email in the next few weeks with more details.
What this appears to mean is that Google will be adding another function to the Glass home screen for Music or Songs triggered by “Okay Glass, listen to” or via the “Listen to” menu. Within that function, Google will let you search for songs by listening, browse through your Google Play playlists and even listen to music with the new earbuds as part of the updated version of Glass.
Here is a video that Google Glass posted to get Glass Explorers excited:
I suspect this will be pushed out to Glass Explorers as XE12 and typically new software updates are released the first week of the month, which works with Google saying “next few weeks.”
