android-apple-iosBusiness Insider reports that IBM released numbers over Christmas showing how iOS drove five-times more mobile commerce sales than Android. In addition, iOS users spent nearly twice as much as Android users on a per-order average. Finally, iOS users drove more traffic in general to sites, compared to Android.

Here is the breakdown on the numbers we have access to:

  • iOS 5X Android in Online Sales: As a percentage of total online sales, iOS was more than five times higher than Android, driving 23 percent vs. 4.6 percent for Android.
  • iOS 2X Android on Per Order Value: On average, iOS users spent $93.94 per order, nearly twice that of Android users, who spent $48.10 per order.
  • iOS 2X Android Traffic: iOS also led as a component of overall traffic with 32.6 percent vs. 14.8 percent for Android.

This data is U.S. only but why does iOS, which has a smaller user base than Android, dominate on these numbers?
