Apple held its big Apple Watch event this morning, showing examples of various apps sending notifications and alerts from the iPhone to the device. So what about Google? Google Now notifications are ideal for smartwatches — in fact, they’re a core part of Google’s own Android Wear. Will those come to Apple Watch?

“We don’t have anything to announce at this time,” Google told us, in an email response to our question about whether it planned to link its Google Search App for iOS to Apple Watch or push Google Now notifications.

There doesn’t appear to be anything that would prevent Google from doing this, if it wanted. Other apps are able to send notifications and information, such as American Airlines and Instagram:

Possibly, Apple might find some technical reason not to approve a Google Search App for Apple Watch. Equally possible, Google might decide to hold back on offering a Google Search App / Google Now app in order to make its own Android Wear smartwatch platform more attractive.

My bet is that we will see Google Now come to Apple Watch eventually, making our mockup at the top of this article into a reality.
