Report: Twitter Is Trying To Move Celebs Off Of Meerkat & Onto Periscope

A smart strategy may help propel Periscope to win the live-streaming war -- cutting off influences from Meerkat and transferring them to Periscope for a trickle-down effect.

A recent report isn’t painting a positive prognosis for the live-streaming app Meerkat. According to TechCrunch,  multiple sources have reported that Twitter has contacted celebrities using Meerkat with the goal of convincing them that the platform is dying and Periscope is the best option.

Even further, TechCruch is reporting that Twitter has contacted media companies using Meerkat and implying that if they don’t switch over, they may lose access to Amplify. This is a big deal as Amplify, Twitter’s pesudeo-TV commercial product, that works with featured video clips from content providers.

Of course Meerkat took the early lead in the live-streaming war, but the battle has since evened out since Twitter launched Periscope. Pushing top users off of Meerkat and onto Periscope may be the final straw as Twitter has already cut out social graph access.
