Agentic AI is rapidly changing the face and feel of shopping for both retailers and consumers, according to a report on agentic commerce from management consultancy firm Kearney.

The report, “Agentic Commerce: From Brand Loyalty to Bot Logic,” found 73% of consumers are familiar with AI tools and 60% of shoppers expect to use agentic AI  in the next 12 months.

The report goes on to say that retailers that are unprepared for this shift face massive risk. Much of that risk will come from cross-platform “super-agents” that operate beyond the control of retailers.

These cross-platform bots represent a seismic shift for retailers, which are accustomed to focusing on the needs of their customers. In an agentic-commerce world, bots will encourage shoppers to look elsewhere for better deals or a better fit.
