Once one of the most promising link shortners, su.pr, is now shutting its doors to the world. The StumbleUpon-based service was released in 2009 and had some of the most in-depth social stats among shortners of that era. The shutdown was announced last year that su.pr was being sunsetted and shutdown in 2013. Today that time has come.
One of the exciting features for StumbleUpon users was the ability to build in voting mechanisms into the shared links to help boost exposure and virality. Su.pr wasn’t just a great short name with social buttons, either. In-depth stats were offered at the link and domain level with downloadable stats that showed re-tweets, traffic sources and clicks as well as some mid-level scheduling features.
For now, all su.pr links will continue to work, but no new accounts will be available. All link shortening, scheduling and reporting services will be discontinued as StumbleUpon makes a shift toward their lists feature.
