Just a week ago the popular filter-driven photo sharing and social networking site announced they were accepting sign-ups for Android users.  Today, the app officially launched the Android version to the public on Google Play.

Until today, Instagram was only available for iPhone users or iPad users and was released in October of 2010.  Despite the limited iPhone-only reach the app is the most popular photography sharing mobile network with 27 million current users.  Instagram is only behind Flickr in the photo community space, as the Yahoo! property has 51 million members.

The app is very slick and finally unites fellow Android users with iPhone users. TheNextWeb broke down the iPhone version against the Android version for anyone curious about OS differences. Instagram also created a how-to for new Android users on their blog to help ease users into the app and all the features & functionality.
