Interbrand top list

Apple is the world’s top brand according to branding consultancy Interbrand. That’s followed by Google in the number two position, with 10 other tech-industry brands in the top 50.

Facebook is number 29 on the list.

Interbrand has released its “Best Global Brands” list annually since 1998. It measures and ranks brands by value. A variety of criteria enter into the calculus; but specifically, Interbrand considers the following three variables:

  • An analysis of the financial performance of the branded products or services
  • The role the brand plays in purchase decisions
  • The brand’s competitive strength

Here (and above) are the top 20 on the list:

  1. Apple
  2. Google
  3. Coke
  4. IBM
  5. Microsoft
  6. GE
  7. Samsung
  8. Toyota
  9. McDonald’s
  10. Mercedes
  11. BMW
  12. Intel
  13. Disney
  14. Cisco
  15. Amazon
  16. Oracle
  17. HP
  18. Gillette
  19. Louis Vuitton
  20. Honda

While a serious effort and no doubt considerable expense goes into generating such rankings, ultimately they’re self-promotional and should be seen as opinion rather than any sort of definitive ranking of success or potential future success.
