A new feature has been released to help Facebookers connect with other users who are near to their physical location. TechCrunch reported that the ‘Find Friends Nearby’ feature (once internally titled “Friendshake”) is available for both mobile and mobile web versions of Facebook. Instead of meeting someone and having to searching for them on Facebook, users can leverage Find Friends Nearby to quickly find and connect with others.
Facebook has been pushing is mobile presence hard as of late. With iOS6 integration, mobile likes to App Center to Instagram, Facebook has beefed up their once deficient mobile presence.
This functionality could be very popular within the Facebook community. Currently, Highlight is the biggest competitor in the space since Glancee was acquired by Facebook a few months ago. The location data parlayed with connection data (friends of friends, networks, similar likes ..etc) could help users find like-minded people wherever they are.
To see Find Friends Nearby on your mobile device simply head to the mobile web address or view via your Android/iPhone app. For app users you must navigate the menu to ‘apps’ then click on ‘find friends’ then ‘other tools’ and finally ‘find friends nearby.’
