The brand's iconic character is promoting the Mexican beer on a Mexican holiday -- just a few days early.

This year, Cinco de Mayo falls on a Tuesday. A Tuesday! After Monday, that’s probably the worst day of the week to host a worldwide celebration of the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. So Dos Equis has a better idea.

As he did once before, the brand’s Most Interesting Man proposes Cinco de Mayo be celebrated on Saturday, May 2 or Dos de Mayo.

In a video, the Most Interesting Man, one of today’s most successful brand icons, is urging everyone to celebrate on May 2. He makes note of the fact that on May 2 “many beautiful women who will be donning their largest hats to watch very small men ride very big horses” and “in the city of sin, two particularly fit gentleman are crowning the day with a fight for a bell which, frankly, I find to be more ostentatious than practical.”

Dos Equis is also hosting a contest asking people to submit their “most extraordinary way” they plan to celebrate Cinco this year with a contest hosted on Facebook and hashtagged #DosDeMayo. Winners will receive an all-expense paid trip for two to a Dos Equis party on August 29 in Los Angeles. The contest runs now through May 5.

Also, the first 1,000 fans who submit a “legend line” or an “I don’t always…” line on the page between April 23 and 24 will receive a Most Interesting Man flat standee.

Dos Equis is promoting the contest on its Facebook and Twitter pages:
