The latest Google-branded “Nexus” phone is now out, as well as the latest Android operating system. Google shared the news with no big event, no fanfare — just a simple blog post welcoming the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 to the world.

The Nexus 5 is now available for order through Google Play, for the US and several other counties. It comes unlocked, starting at $349 for the 16GB model, $399 for the 32GB version.

Unlike its predecessor, the Nexus 4, it supports 4G LTE. It also supports touchless “OK Google” commands similar to the Moto X, though only if you’ve apparently got the home screen already open. It has a 5 inch screen and, of course, runs the latest version of Android.

In the US, Google tells us the phone works with T-Mobile and Sprint, and both of these are listed at the bottom of its blog post. Google also specifically confirmed to me that the phone will work with AT&T’s LTE network, unlike the Nexus 4. But it will not work with Verizon, Google said.

The Nexus 5 becomes the first phone to get the latest version of Android, Android 4.4 or “KitKat.” Google says Android 4.4 will “soon” come to the Nexus 4, 7, 10 and Google Play editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC one in “the coming weeks.”

You can learn more about both in Google’s blog post, as well as in a video the company has released:
