Regardless of what the IDCs, Strategy Analytics and Gartners show in terms of quarterly device shipments and marketshare forecasts, the “facts on the ground” continue to show the iPad driving far more traffic than any competing tablet device. That’s reinforced by Chitika’s new tablet traffic report.

Based on millions of tablet-based impressions on its network during April, from the US and Canada, Chitika says that the iPad drove just over 81 percent of tablet traffic. Kindle Fire was second, with 7.4 percent, and all other tablets were together responsible for roughly 11 percent of traffic.

The iPad’s traffic share has remained largely unchanged since February according to Chitika. However the report points out that Samsung Galaxy tablets have increased their share from 4.2 percent in February to 4.7 percent in April.

After the Samsung devices, in the group of “others,” Google’s Nexus 7 is first. However Microsoft Surface also showed a slight uptick in April.

Relatively consistent with the above, Monetate’s Q1 report says that just under 90 percent of tablet traffic is coming from the iPad, with Android tablets (including Kindle Fire) generating roughly 11 percent of tablet traffic.
