Google is showing an animated, very prominent ad for the Nexus 7 tablet on its homepage today. The tablet has sold well though Google hasn’t shared any official numbers. But for a time the 8GB model sold out. And there are third party data to suggest the Nexus 7 is doing well.
The Nexus 7 has been very well reviewed and be designated the strongest Android tablet challenger to the iPad.
The Nexus 7 currently comes in two versions: 8GB ($199) and 16GB ($249). Apple is widely expected (almost certain) to introduce a smaller version of the iPad (the iPad Mini) in October. In addition, Amazon is also supposed to be launching Kindle Fire 2.0 and perhaps a larger 10-inch version of the tablet next month.
With this new promotion, Google may be trying to get out in front of those expected product announcements.
