It only seems like the world is spinning faster. It’s actually slowing down, imperceptibly.

The speed of video sharing, on the other hand, is accelerating rapidly according to a report by the social video marketing company Unruly.

In April of 2013, Unruly benchmarked video sharing by brands and found that about 25% of shares happen in the first three days after publishing. Now the three-day rate has jumped to 42%.  Also Unruly reports: “The average number of shares on the day following launch, when the most shares usually happen, has also almost doubled from 10% to 18% over the last 12 months, while shares in the first week have also risen from 37% to 65%.”

Here’s how the trend looks in graphic form:

So what does it all mean for brands and businesses trying to get their videos noticed? For starters if you aren’t fully optimizing your videos, take a spin through YouTube’s Creator Playbook for tips.

And if you want professional help, you can hire a company like Unruly, which today announced that it is adding the ability to place skippable pre-roll ads within its Unruly Activate platform.
