justin.tv logoJustin.tv, a popular video-streaming site, has decided to stop archiving videos.

The site announced last Thursday it would remove all video archives, and no longer offer recorded broadcasts after June 8.

From the announcement:

We found that more than half of our VODs are unwatched (with 0 or 1 total views), while the vast majority are rarely watched (with 10 or less views)…

So, taking into consideration the above findings and countless discussions, we have concluded to remove all archiving after June 8, 2014. This means that live broadcasts will no longer be recorded.

The announcement went on to claim the site is focusing its efforts on its live video delivery system.

A report on Mashbable.com speculates Justin.tv’s decision to end its archiving services has more to do with its spin-off video game site Twitch.tv, than focusing on live broadcasts.

“The abrupt sunsetting of Justin.tv’s archiving feature, as well as the removal of its nearly seven years of video history, is a clear indication that the company is focusing its resources primarily on Twitch,” writes Mashable.com’s Adario Strange.

Mashable.com claims Justin.tv generates only five million unique visitors per month, while Twitch.tv earns approximately 38 million visitors per month. According to the Mashable.com, YouTube was in talks earlier this year to purchase Twitch.tv for a rumored $1 billion, but a deal has yet to be reached.
