smartphone-shutterstockComScore released its September smartphone market share data for the US market.  Based on consumer surveys, the company estimated that nearly 150 million US mobile subscribers now own smartphones (149.2 million).

Apple remains the top individual smartphone OEM; however Samsung has continued to gain and now controls 25.4 percent of the market. Motorola saw a slight bump, which is welcome news for the company.

Interestingly there doesn’t really appear to be any significant share gain for Apple from the new iPhones. I would have expected to see more than a 0.2 market share increase given everything that we’ve been hearing about iPhone sales momentum.

October smartphone share

After essentially being flat for a few months, Android saw its platform share go up slightly. Apple enjoyed a slight gain as did Windows Phones. In several markets in Europe Windows Phones are now at or near a 10 percent share according to Kantar survey data.

October OS share

In terms of the top mobile websites and apps, there’s almost no change from last month. Google has the greatest overall mobile reach while Facebook has the top individual mobile app. Yesterday, however, Consumer Intelligence Research Partners released data that reflected Facebook and Twitter saw much more frequent app usage than Google Search or Google Maps.
