Google mobile appGoogle announced yesterday that it has added more “cards” to Google Now. The following are the new types of content and data that Google Now will be showing:

  • Car rentals card
  • Concert ticket card
  • Improved public transit cards
  • Commute sharing card
  • Set reminders while you search
  • Updated TV card
  • NCAA football scores

Of particular interest in the list above is the “commute sharing card,” which will allow others to track your movements and get a better sense of when you’ll arrive. Here’s Google’s explanation of the feature: “When leaving work, you can now choose to inform your loved ones that you are on your way home. Learn more at http://goo.gl/bVUkLY.”

It has to be turned on and off manually.

This capability was first introduced by a company called Glympse (its location tracking expires and isn’t persistent). That feature was later copied and adopted by Waze in its most recent pre-Google release. Google acquired Waze (subject to federal approval) and recently started swapping features with the app.

Google Now has recently become a bigger feature of Google overall. The company incorporated many of the capabilities and content of Google Now into the PC and mobile search experience through “quick answers.
