This spring, smart TVs will be getting smarter thanks to Android integration. The versatile operating system launched in 2008 now extends much farther than just phones.  With the announcement of Nexus Player & Android TV, Android Wear and the new Android gaming system from Razer consumers are quickly seeing how powerful the platform can be. With this integration into smart TVs, Android is striking first in the “truly” smart TV space.

Android inked deals with Sony, Sharp, TP Vision (Phillips TVs) to name a few, and the new Android powered smart TVs will arrive this coming quarter. Some of the features include the ability to watch shows and play games from Google Play, use Voice Search from a remote and integrated with  Google Cast.

This is huge for the proliferation of Android outside of the smartphone space and a way to get consumers familiar with the OS. The fact that they are first to market a true manufacturer independent solution will be a massive advantage in the media consumption and buying space as users won’t need extra apparatuses to engage.
