Marissa MayerLess than a year into her time as Yahoo’s CEO, Marissa Mayer says the company is wrapping up its first “sprint” — a focus on changing perceptions about Yahoo as a workplace and improving the quality of the company’s workforce.

Speaking today on the company’s Q1 earnings call, Mayer said Yahoo has already implemented 567 employee-focused initiatives across the company, and things are changing for the better. She said the company’s data shows that more people are planning to work at Yahoo, and more are staying.

In the first quarter of the year, Mayer said, Yahoo received triple the amount of resumés and 14 percent of its new hires were “boomerangs” — people that left the company before but were coming back to work at Yahoo again.

“Companies with the best talent win, and it’s clear we’re now back in the game,” Mayer said.

Yahoo recently announced expansion plans in both New York state and Ireland with plans to add more than 300 jobs in both of those locations.

With the talent-focused “sprint” winding down, Mayer said Yahoo will shift toward focusing on the next sprint — “building beautiful products” and executing the company’s overall strategy.

Mayer resigned her position at Google last July to take over the Yahoo CEO role.
