linkedin-logoFollowing in the footsteps of Facebook and Google+ (and Twitter to a lesser degree), LinkedIn has announced new activity notifications that will appear in real-time as users are active on the site.

The notifications will show when someone comments or likes your LinkedIn updates, when you get new inMail, when a successful connection request happens, when someone views your profile and more. You’ll see the notifications via new envelope and flag icons in the top of the LinkedIn header banner. Here’s how it looks from LinkedIn’s sample image:

The notifications are just rolling out now, and LinkedIn says it may take “a few weeks” for all users to get access. Also in the works is extending the new notifications to mobile devices including LinkedIn’s Android and iOS apps.
