LinkedIn announced today that it has more than 300 million users, 100 million in the United States.

“While this is an exciting moment, we still have a long way to go to realize our vision of creating economic opportunity for every one of the 3.3 billion people in the global workforce,” Deep Nishar,
LinkedIn senior vice president for products and user experience, wrote in a blog post.

LinkedIn has been making a push for more international users this year, most notably by launching a beta site in Simplified Chinese in February. The results from the effort to woo China’s 140 million professionals remain to be seen — LinkedIn provided no update — but the company believes that the key to its international growth plan will be a mobile focus.

Already more than 50% of LinkedIn’s global traffic comes from mobile devices. That’s 15 million profile views, 1.45 million job views and 44,000 job applications viewed via mobile. Mobile use has surpassed desktop in Costa Rica, Malaysia, Singapore, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, among others.

To take advantage of that trend, LinkedIn said it will continue to focus on its mobile apps, pointing to its launch this week of the SlideShare app for Android.
