google-glass-featuredToday, Google introduced the official Google Glass Developer Kit, aka GDK. The GDK is how developers can build native Glassware (i.e. Google Glass Apps) for the device, above and beyond the Mirror API, which is how developers built timeline cards to be pushed to Glass in the past.

The GDK enables developers to build rich native Glassware that work more like apps than what Glass users are accustomed to with Glassware.

With this release of the GDK, Google already approved give third-party Glassware apps that use the GDK including:

  • Allthecooks: A cooking app to help you read recipes without using your hands.
  • Spellista: A word jumble game.
  • GolfSight: A tool to calculate distances and the like as you wear silly pants and wave sticks at small round objects.
  • Strava: A run tracking app.
  • Wordlens: Translate printed words into a language you can understand

Google also brought new Glassware third-party apps that use the mirror API to glass users. The new glassware apps include:

  • IFTTT: IFTTT is a service that lets you create powerful connections with one simple statement — if this then that.
  • Jewish Guide for Glass: A companion for observant Jewish people. Reminds you to pray, where to pray, what to pray and much more.
  • Stopwatch: A simple stopwatch.
  • Umano: With Umano you will hear REAL voice actors read interesting news articles to you.

Here is a video showcasing the new GDK and some of the apps launched today:

These new Glassware can be access at the MyGlass page for Glass owners.
