facebook-logoFacebook said that for the first time in Q4 2012, daily mobile users exceeded daily PC users. The press release quote from CEO Mark Zuckerberg was: “In 2012, we connected over a billion people and became a mobile company.”

The company posted $1.33 billion in ad revenue for Q4, 23 percent of which (or $306 million) was generated via mobile. Revenues for the full year were just over $5 billion.

There were 680 million mobile monthly active users (vs. just over 1 billion in total) in Q4 and 157 million monthly mobile only users.

One of the advantages that Facebook has in mobile is that it can simply dial up more mobile advertising. Many of Facebook’s desktop ad formats can be shown in mobile in the same way that Google can show PC search ads in mobile search results.

While consciously trying to generate more mobile revenue, to show progress to investors, Facebook is also being careful not to clutter the user experience.
