A revolt is afoot. Since Google’s announcement to close the popular Google Reader service 17 hours ago, loyal users have taken to a change.org petition in droves. Since being constructed by Dan Lewis 1 hour after the announcement, the petition has reached 76% of its goal toward 75,000 signatures:

The petition is averaging 3,570 signatures an hour which equates to a signature every second.

While there are other Google Reader Alternatives out there, the community is speaking out passionately against this early retirement. The petition itself includes some pretty poignant statements such as:

Our confidence in Google’s other products — Gmail, YouTube, and yes, even Plus — requires that we trust you in respecting how and why we use your other products. This isn’t just about our data in Reader. This is about us using your product because we love it, because it makes our lives better, and because we trust you not to nuke it.

Oh.

So, please don’t destroy that trust.

Most brands would love to have a problem like this — a product that is too popular to retire. Other sites like BringGoogleReaderBack.com are also trying to shed the light on the alleged injustice towards Google Reader as well:
