Another Year, Another “Facebook Isn’t That Popular With Teens” Report

While teen Facebook use is nearly 2x the nearest competitor, the social giant has once again displayed a slip in market-share according to a new study.

A new report from Frank N. Magid Associates Inc. reiterated what a handful of prior reports have seen — that Facebook isn’t as popular with teens as it once was. This news comes roughly one year from the first time that Facebook recorded a decrease in “young teen” usage, and a few months after another unfavorable survey on Facebook teen usage was released.

The recent report uncovered that of the social media users 13 to 17 in the U.S., 88 percent use Facebook. This number is down from 94% in 2013 and 95% in 2013. Of course, as we mentioned before, Facebook is still a big hit with teens. During this time-frame Twitter actually jumped 2 percentage points, but still lags far behind Facebook at just 48 percent.

Investors may not be that concerned however as the Facebook owned photo-sharing platform,  Instagram, has been making up more than their fair share in the teen demographic. According to Bloomberg Businessweek Instagram now is worth $35 billion dollars and has more users than Twitter. Additionally in those ‘damming’ October reports, teens showed that Instagram was by far their favorite social network, with 80% of repsondants citing it as their go-to social network.
