Good morning, Marketers, let’s cool our engines.

What is everyone talking about? Conversational AI, especially ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. Sure, they likely aren’t going away and they may well impact many aspects of marketing and martech. But strap in for a bumpy ride.

Last year, the metaverse was on everyone’s lips. We did point out that it could offer dystopias as well as utopias and be threatening to the young and vulnerable. Then this news story about dangerous-by-design apps came out.

This week, seasoned tech journalist Kevin Roose was “deeply unsettled, even frightened” by an experience with Bing’s AI. One can only imagine the consequences of such an experience for someone with mental health issues or other vulnerabilities. Maybe these technologies will be ready for prime time soon — some are highly optimistic — but there’s some fixing to be done.
